Get into the holiday spirit with Catawba Science Center, Hickory Museum of Art, SALT Block Foundation, and Western Piedmont Symphony as we kick off the season and Light Up the Block on November 18th at the SALT Block Foundation (243 3rd 3rd Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601).

Enjoy holiday refreshments, festive children's activities, music, and much more.


SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

1)Hickory Museum of Art:

10 AM-5 PM: shopHMA Holiday Open House: Enjoy holiday refreshments as you shop. HMA Members receive a 15% discount and non-members receive 10% all purchases.

11AM-3 PM: Children’s Festive Holiday Art Activities

1 PM: Music and story telling in the NEW HORIZONS: Self-taught Art in the 21st Century exhibition.

4:45 PM: Special Painting Unveiling Ceremony

End the day with a free Chef’s Appetizer with a drink purchase at Highland Avenue Restaurant. Just let your server know that you helped HMA Light Up the Block!

Sunday, November 19 | Remembering Mickey

Please join Pat Turner Mitchell, guest curator of Mickey + Paul: The Early Days to reminisce and reflect upon the lives of long-time director Mildred McKinney Whitener Coe and HMA founder, Paul Whitener. We invite you to bring your photos and share precious memories in tribute of those who contributed so dearly to the cultural community we call home.


2)Catawba Science Center:

Open 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (aquarium building will close at 4 PM)

Refreshments include old fashioned snack foods including ginger cookies and pumpkin pie, with special apple cider provided by Hart Square.

- In Inventors Workshop, visitors can make Old-American style crafts such as: hand-woven pot holders, Colonial-era spinning disk toy, 'tin plate punch' craft, and rolled paper decorations.

-Onsite will be a local collector of Native American relics with some of his collection on display.

-Discounts: 20 % off for Members | 10 % off for Non-Members
